District 4’s Noteworthy News from Noemi!

I may be communicating with some of you for the first time! This calls for the written version of my elevator speech. But, first, if there’s one thing I’d like you to take from this blog, is that you may discover at least one resource of the many listed at the bottom of this page to further your personal and/or Toastmasters goals this year. If short on time, scroll down and start there!

My name is Noemi Gonzalez. I will be serving all of you, 3000+ members of District 4, as District Director for year 2017/2018. This is both an awesome honor and a challenge; I know it will be a year of growth for me.

I’ve been a Toastmaster for over five years and an officer of some sort for five. I held club officer positions for the first two years and a combination of club and district office since. I credit much of my growth as a communicator to serving in leadership roles at club, area, division and district level.

My personal philosophy is this year’s District Theme: DREAM. DO. BECOME.

DREAM – and have a plan to make your dream a reality.

DO – follow the plan. In terms of Toastmasters, leading a team is a prime way of leveraging your plan! Start small and short-term if you’re trying it for the first time.

Historically, the speakers we most quote and admire forged their skill and earned their credentials through the daily challenges, failures, victories and, ultimately, lessons learned and earned by leading others towards a common vision.

Whether you admire the words of historic figures like Lincoln, Churchill, Gandhi or Roosevelt, or more contemporary iconic leaders like the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, Gloria Steinem, Pope Francis, Barack Obama, Brené Brown or Steve Jobs, the common thread is leadership. This year we are launching the Leadership Lab on d4tm.org. There, I invite you to look for opportunities that align with your personal goals to BECOME stronger versions of ourselves LET THE RESEARCH BEGIN!

How can I and the leaders who support your club help you maximize and leverage what your club, area, division and District 4 have to offer towards fulfilling your personal dreams and goals this year? Whether you lead through formal leadership (as club, area, division or district officer) or informal/earned leadership (you participate in meetings and club committees, show overall support to your fellow members, serve in the community, etc.), here are a few tips to make the most of what our district has to offer:

  1. You can definitely see your enthusiasm within the article you write.
The world hopes for more passionate writers such
as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe.
All the time go after your heart.

  2. I love the comment, “I invite you to look for opportunities that align with your personal goals to BECOME stronger versions of ourselves.” We can either do the same things over and over or really explore all Toastmasters has to offer.

    • Thank you, Tasha! This is one of the most complete programs I know; the trick lies in utilizing it to its fullest extent and following both tracks with equal commitment.
